General

Happy Valley Healthy Beauty operates inside Dragonfly Therapeutic Massage, located at 1526 N. Atherton St. Ste 200, State College PA 16803.

Dragonfly is above Plato’s Closet on Atherton Street and there is ample parking alongside and in the back of the building.

Once you park and enter the building (behind the entrance to Plato’s Closet), you take the elevator to the second floor. There you will see a large, comfortable waiting room. Have a seat and wait for your practitioner to escort you to your treatment room.

It is best to wear loose-fitting clothing that will allow your practitioner access to your treatment area. If you are receiving cryo therapy, bear in mind that the treatment can be cold, so having warm socks, warm lounge pants, etc. can make the experience more comfortable. We will also use table warmers and blankets to keep you comfortable.
There is no need to bring anything. It is best to plan to hydrate before and after treatment and to eat a healthy, low-carb diet.

Cryo

The CoolRestore is a non-invasive treatment. It uses a physical effect of a low temperature to tone skin, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, accelerates cell turnover, and helps with fat cell reduction. The treatment is refreshing and toning, non-invasive, and generally non-irritating. As with most procedures, visible results from CoolRestore will vary from person to person.

CRYO SLIMMING THERAPY is the controlled process of elimination of unwanted fatty cells through the concentrated application of cold. This process is known as apoptosis or, “programmed cell death”.

The Cryo Slimming Treatment focuses on one specific area of the body at a time, the target temperature range is +4 to -4C.

Cryo Toning therapy also helps to tone and tighten skin with the following effects. If a treatment is not also attempting slimming, the overall temperature of the treatments is slightly warmer than when the goal is slimming (+8 C instead of as cold as -4 C).

  1. As the skin is cooled, superficial blood capillaries first shrink, then dilate (aka vasodilation), and drastically increase local blood circulation and oxygenation.
    2. As the skin cools, it triggers a chain of biological reactions that lead to increased neocollagenesis (production of new collagen and elastin fibers).
    3. increased blood circulation enhances lymphatic flow and decreases edema and skin puffiness.

This is a 100% holistic treatment, which runs only on distilled water. There is no ultrasound or electrical current used; only controlled low temperatures, making it a safe choice for a wide range of clients.

Created by a team of medical engineers, this sleek and uniquely designed Cryo System along with its two hand-pieces for face and body make CoolRestore a unique form of local cryotherapy.

Cold therapy has recently gained recognition as one of the safest and most effective methods of skin toning, slimming, and cellulite reduction.

The Cryo Sculpting technology of Zemits CoolRestore uses specific treatment protocols to help with body contouring and skin tightening goals.

Clients notice improved skin tone, texture, tightening, elasticity, reduced cellulite, fat reduction (around 2 inches, depending on the client and number of treatments), body contouring, healthy skin glow, dramatically improved blood flow, reduction of puffiness and edema. These results are visible right after treatment and tend to continue improving for up to three weeks or even longer.

Apoptosis (from Ancient Greek, apóptōsis, “falling off”) is a form of programmed cell death that occurs in multicellular organisms. Biochemical events (extremely low temperature in the case of Cryo Slimming) lead to characteristic cell changes (morphology) and death. These changes include cell shrinkage, fragmentation, and eventually death of the cell.

Cryo Therapy sessions are working with fatty cells directly, and help to boost the apoptosis of the adipocytes.

The average adult human loses between 50 and 70 billion cells each day due to apoptosis.

In contrast to necrosis, which is a form of traumatic cell death that results from acute cellular injury, apoptosis is a highly regulated and controlled process that confers advantages during an organism’s life cycle.

Unlike necrosis, apoptosis produces cell fragments called apoptotic bodies that phagocytes can engulf and remove before the contents of the cell can spill out onto surrounding cells and cause damage to them.

After the Cryo treatment, the injured fat cells will begin to die off (as the APOPTOSIS of the fatty cell was initiated).

Once they’re dead, they’re broken down through the body’s natural inflammatory response of the immune system, absorbed and processed out of the body naturally, like anything else.

The results of CRYO Slimming depend on genes and time. The process takes time, which is why fat loss results from Cryo treatment can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months after treatment to show, and you could continue to see results as far as 4 to 6 months after the treatment.

The duration of the wait for the results could have several contributing factors:

  • the number of treatments performed
  • the location of the treatments
  • diet and exercise routine

The following people should NOT do cryotherapy slimming treatments:

– Severe Raynaud’s

– Severe Allergy to Cold

– Progressive Diseases (MS, ALS, Parkinson’s, Neuropathy)

– Active Cancer

– HIV/AIDS

– Lymphatic Disorders

– Uncontrolled Diabetes or Diabetes-related complications

– Severe Kidney or Liver Disease

– Pregnancy/Breastfeeding

– Bacterial and viral infections of the skin

– Wound healing disorders

– Circulatory disorders

– Surgery in the past 6 months

– Pacemaker/metal implants

– Active/Severe Eczema, rashes, or dermatitis

– Use of topical antibiotics in the desired treatment area

– Silicone/other implants in the desired treatment area

– Mesh inserts in the desired treatment area

– Irremovable body piercings in the desired treatment area

– Incision scar(s) in the desired treatment area

The following people should NOT do cryotherapy toning treatments:

– Severe Raynaud’s

– Progressive Diseases (MS, ALS, Parkinson’s, Neuropathy)

– Pregnancy/Breastfeeding

– Bacterial and viral infections of the skin

– Wound healing disorders

– Circulatory disorders

– Irremovable body piercings in the desired treatment area

In addition to the above contraindications for toning, these people should not do a face treatment:

– Botox in the past 30 days

– Fillers in the past 90 days

If you have had Botox or fillers, we recommend checking with your practitioner to determine their recommended wait time, since that can vary based on the procedure and products used.

Everyone who is cleared for these treatments will see results. Slimming sessions work best on clients that have a BMI of 35 or less. Those clients prepared to exercise and reduce their carb intake during the treatment calendar will see enhanced results.

Most people find the session relaxing. The treatment is cold, but it is cold in a very localized area.
Session times vary. They are generally between 30 minutes to 45 for one zone. A deluxe facial will last closer to one hour.
Skin rejuvenation and toning treatments can be done once a week. Slimming should be scheduled two weeks apart to allow the body time to complete lymphatic drainage.
The fat reduction treatments are permanent, but they can be reversed if clients do not follow up with healthy exercise and diet habits.

Skin toning and rejuvenation treatments will last for months, but results are best maintained with follow-up sessions. Ask your practitioner what they recommend, but it is common to do a follow-up every 4-6 weeks.

The gel helps the cryo wand conduct cold temperatures to the skin. We use gels specifically designed to enhance results.
No, unlike the potential risks of whole body cryo, this treatment gives the practitioner constant feedback on the temperature of your skin. Also, unlike CoolSculpting, which can leave the skin bruised and have other adverse effects, local cryotherapy does not run the same risks and also improves skin tone and texture.

There have been no accounts of any freezing damage to the skin from these treatments.

The body needs time to completely remove the dead fat cells from your system after treatment.
The most common result is the visible reduction in inches. It is also common to lose some weight. Research has shown that it is common to lose up to two inches after a series of 5-6 treatments. Weight loss is due both to the loss of fat mass but also to the drainage techniques (exercise, extra hydration), reduced carb, low sugar diet, and lifestyle required to achieve the best results.
The key difference is the temperature range. Slimming treatments are performed at colder temperature so about -4 to +4 C. Toning is at +8 C to higher temperatures, depending on the area of the body being treated.
Both slimming and toning treatments cause vasodilation in the treated area. This increases blood flow which results in increased collagen production. Collagen helps to break down cellulite but, cellulite will eventually return if there are no changes in diet and exercise.
The cold hand device creates vasodilation in the treated area. This increases the production of collagen which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment also closes the pores and increases the elasticity of the skin which gives your skin a healthy glow. Because the aging process continues the effect is not permanent, but can be maintained with touch up treatments.
Generally, once a week is ideal until desired results are achieved. Then a maintenance treatment every 3-6 weeks depending on age and other factors will continue the results.

To get the best results from a local cryotherapy session, you should not consume sugar, alcohol or carbs 2 hours before and 2 hours after the session. Because sugar is a power source for fat cells, consuming sugar will interfere with the treatment. If you eat sugar, it gives fat cells immediate energy and the apoptosis effect will be less efficient or even negated. Ideally, clients should avoid all types of sugar for 4 to 5 hours before and after a session, but 2 hours is the usual recommended time to get results. Continuing a carb/sugar/alcohol reduced diet will help enhance and maintain results.

They count as one zone.

The majority of CoolRestore session customers see the results immediately after treatment and their skin may feel tighter and toned with appropriate home care to maintain treatment results. Slimming and toning results will continue to accrue for up to three weeks after a session.

Please avoid a strenuous workout right before a session, because if your body is hot it can impede results. Exercising after is fine.

Avoid using a sauna for 48 hours before and after treatment for the best results.
  • It is important to not eat or drink any alcohol, sugar, or foods that contain sugar or carbohydrates that convert into sugar (i.e. fruit, juices, white bread, white rice, pasta, etc.) 2 hours prior to your appointment time.
  • Try to avoid working out or doing anything that increases your body temperature at least ONE hour before your session.
  • Within 8 hours prior to your appointment, consume at least 64 ounces of water.
  • Within 12 hours after your appointment, consume an additional 64 ounces of water.
  • Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Celluma

CelluGlide combines three technologies:

  • EMS (Electric Muscle Stimulation)

EMS works via electrical impulses stimulating muscle fibers. EMS can help to eliminate toxins that can cause cellulite, stimulate blood flow and increase the production of collagen. These factors can give skin a smoother appearance. EMS can also help tone muscles and improve body definition more effectively than conventional training methods.

  • Vacuum massage

Thought of as a nonsurgical alternative to a Brazilian butt lift, vacuum therapy is a noninvasive way to treat cellulite, tone skin, and body contour. Vacuum therapy also helps to eliminate fat (the suction drains the adipose tissue and moves the fat towards the lymphatic system), it has an exfoliating effect, provides elasticity to the skin, and relaxes the muscles.

  • Roller massage

Rolling uses a technique called myofascial release. This involves applying pressure to an area of the body to stimulate the blood flow to the muscle and repair the damaged tissue otherwise known as fascia. Fascia is the tissue which connects everything in the body. When the fascia is weak, fat protrudes through it which causes the bumpy appearance of cellulite. Rolling increases circulation and the increased circulation can also smooth out the appearance of cellulite.

The effects of all these treatments is a circumferential reduction of the treated area, improvement in visible cellulite, and body reshaping.

  • Body sculpting
  • Body contouring
  • Visible cellulite reduction
  • Puffiness removal
  • Skin elasticity improvement
  • Local fat depot splitting
  • subcutaneous fat volume reduction
  • Lymphatic drainage
  • Blood circulation improvement
  • Rejuvenation of fading skin
  • Edema removal
  • Cicatricial tissue structure improvement
  • Cellulite TREATMENT (in contrast to superficial reduction of visible cellulite symptoms)

Dress comfortably and prepare for us to access your treatment zone. Feel free to call us with any questions.

  • Avoid carbs (including alcohol and all sugars) for at least two hours before and two hours after a session. Ideally for five. Because sugar is a power source for fat cells, consuming sugar will interfere with the treatment.
  • Try to avoid working out or doing anything that increases your body temperature at least ONE hour before your session. Wait 12 hours to workout after CelluGlide.
  • Within 8 hours prior to your appointment, consume at least 32 ounces of water. Make sure to space this out.
  • Within 12 hours after your appointment, consume an additional 32 ounces of water. Make sure to space this out and not drink too much at once.
  • Avoid use of a sauna for 48 hours before and after.
  • While you should notice results right after a session, slimming and toning results will continue to increase over time. Slimming results can take up to three weeks for full effects.
  • Keeping hydrated, eating less carbs, and doing exercise will help build and maintain results.
  • Book your next session –wait at least 7 days between sessions. Once you have achieved desired results, maintenance sessions are recommended.

Dermaplane

Dermaplaning is a treatment that uses a medical scalpel to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove fine facial hair commonly known as “peach fuzz”, technically called “vellus” hair. It can be used as an alternative to laser treatments and microdermabrasion. Dermaplaning will give your skin a more radiant appearance. Following the treatment, makeup application is smoother and other skincare products are able to penetrate deeper and have a greater effect.

The popularity of dermaplaning has led to a growth of at-home options. But there are are range of reasons why a professional dermaplane treatment makes a real difference. First, the equipment is totally different. Your professional dermaplane scalpel is a medical grade device that is much sharper and does not scratch the skin. Having a professionally trained technician makes a huge difference in results and keeps the treatment safe. Trained technicians also use a much more refined technique that will ensure higher quality results.

Dermaplaning is effective for aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tones. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.

This treatment is extremely safe when performed by a certified skincare professional. There is no more risk to the skin than when you might have with a shave. There is also no downtime associated with this procedure.

Dermaplaning uses a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface with a professional grade scalpel. With waxing and threading, most people have the idea that all hair removal is painful, but Dermaplaning is entirely painless. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes generally heal within 24-48 hours.

We worried about that too! But, the answer is a definitive NO. There are different types of hair that grow on the body; vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is found on most areas of the body except palms, soles, lips and genital areas, whereas terminal hairs are found on the scalp, underarms and pubic region. The soft and fine vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture when it is removed.

Hyperkeratosis is a build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. By removing this initial layer, a chemical peel is able to penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel or cryotherapy leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. Together they promote new skin growth, cellular rejuvenation, and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.

Dermaplaning takes anywhere between 30-60 minutes and can be performed every 3-4 weeks. The treatment itself removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin so it is important to let your skin rejuvenate before your next appointment.

oth options are a form of physical exfoliation. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin, microdermabrasion also exfoliates the surface of the skin, but not as thoroughly or deeply as dermaplaning does.

Ideally you will not have makeup to remove, though we are happy to do it. Dress in comfortable clothes that allow us access to your face and neck. Be prepared to potentially remove your blouse if we are working on decollete. Remember that you won’t want to be in strong sunlight for a few days.
